    anyone any experience with these cars? im looking at one tomorrow, what should i look out for when viewing the car?

    Heavy clutch, clunk on startup which indicates flywheel gone, aircon compressor not working, hesitation on acceleration, timing belt due, they're a minefield tbh. The 06 onwards 6 speed is so much better.

    Show me a car that doesn't suffer from problems though. My dads 05 avensis is a tank, he's put a clutch into it and master cylinder over about 200k Miles. EGR got cleaned x2 in that period also. He got clutch done including buying his own kit for less than 450 by some polish lad in Limerick.

    EGR. Very common on all diesel avensis

    Would a faulty egr be dirty or just not open/close correctly?

    Mostly dirty to the best of my knowledge. Really easy to clean, some guy posted a thread on here before detailing the process if you search you shall find
