Irish open accommodation

    Hi ladies and gents,

My partner and I (and our one year old) and two friends are considering heading up to the Irish open this summer. Initial conversations (or should I say negotiations lol) have been fruitful in the sense that the lads can head to the golf for the three days and the ladies will head off for each day. They have said they have no interest in the golf and as such don't want to be too close but would still like some amenities close by ie the beach and perhaps a spa.
It has fallen on me to look at reasonable accommodation for the 5 of us. Considering the little lad will need to be in bed for 8 and we would ideally like to rent a house (not an apartment or hotel) i am here asking for help finding reasonable accommodation within a half hours drive of the golf course.

Ideally, reasonable would be 400 euro for 4 days. But happy enough if we pushed it up to 500 for the right place that suits us all equally.

I look forward to any and all help. At the end of the day any help will bolster my argument (or selling of a short holiday based solely on golf).
    James

Basically, you'll want to stay in Coleraine, Portstewart or Portrush. Most rental places will look for you to book an entire week. From what I have seen, this is going to run you upwards of £800.

AirBnB is about your best bet. A quick search shows that there are places available within your budget and within 30mins of the course.

Thanks for that. I must be the only person to have never used air bnb, I will familiarise myself it and try to book there. Thanks a lot.

I'd recommend Derry, accommodation will be cheaper and the train to Coleraine is ideal, there will be buses straight from the train station to the course. Means a few drinks and let the wife's take the car:)

400 quid for 5 people for 4 nights?

    You surely haven't a hope!

It's possible, looking more like 600 realistically. Never needed to book for more than 2 before!

Have a look at Moville in Donegal. Caiseal Mara hotel in Moville town.
Greencastle ferry to Portstewart for the golf, plenty to do around Moville for families.

Plenty of holiday home rentals in both Moville and Greencastle too.

Ferry is €16 return for car and passengers, runs from 7am til about 10pm

There are self-catering cottages around like these....

Bushmills and Portballintrae are quiet but quite close to Portrush and PortStewart.

Best beaches near Portstewart are Portstewart Strand and my favourite the Whiterocks (which is right beside Royal Portrush).

Unfortunately Ferry is not running and is in difficulty of not running again. Hopefully some sense will prevail and it will start running again soon, otherwise I will have a very long route to get across:(

Didn't realise that last year's operators decided against resuming this year. I just rnag someone in Moville and its back out for tender with tenders due end of April and they hope service will begin before end of May.

So its a gamble that could pay-off.

€400 for the week for nice house close to Moville and short ferry and drive to Portstewart (total 30km) with the gamble that if the ferry is not working it will be a 80km drive via Derry.
