I just happened to jump on Twitter a minute ago, and my heart sank to see this:

Allan was one of the most astonishing guitarists ever, who developed a remarkable technique that started with a wish to sound like John Coltrane and other crazy jazz musicians. His sound was recognisable anywhere and inspired the likes of Shawn Lane, John Petrucci, Frank Gambale, and just about every adventurous prog or fusion guitarist. Here's a quick sample of his work with U.K:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I remember been given Wardenclyffe Tower years ago, putting it on and thinking this is like nothing else. Ever. Immediately recognisable musician and hugely influential, as you said. RIP.

Ah only reading this now. Shame someone so influential can pass away and virtual no mention of it. At least no mention this side of the water anyway.

While I could never truly get into his music, I could definitely appreciate the guy was a genius (his legato phrasing is better than anyone will ever get).

    RIP Allan
