Third learner permit?

My second learner permit expired about a year ago and I've been thinking about getting a third. I'm aware to get one I'd need to apply for a test (which I would not be able to sit as I am not even close to competent) but I was wondering if there was a way to start from scratch even though I've had two learner permits? AKA sit the new DTT and do the blocked lessons?

Hard to believe that ppl are still allowed to drive ,alone,on their 2nd learner permit, did my test in the n of Ireland, and there,as in all of Europe, ones not allowed to do this, without seeming gruff, rude, there's really no excuse for it,joke of a country

Where does it say people are aloud to drive alone on a second permit and what has your post to do with the op?

Op. I think if your LP expires you need to start the whole process again including your theory test

Not once did I say I am driving, never mind alone, so I have absolutely no clue where you got that from!

I was thinking, and hoping that. Pretty sure a DTT passed 11 years ago would leave my knowledge a little rusty :P

Hard to believe you are almost Ten Years behind the times. They changed the Law all the way back in 2008.
I hope the rest of your driving knowledge is a bit more up to date.

You will only have to start from scratch if your permit has expired for over 5 years. Otherwise you just apply for a test, then reapply for your learner permit.
Mine was expired almost 5 years and I just applied for a test and got a new one.

    It is hard to believe.
As mgbgt1978 just said, you haven't been allowed to drive alone on a second learner permit (or provisional licence as it was at the time) for almost 10 years!!

I was sort of wondering if they'd let me do it from scratch by doing a new DTT or would I have to wait? It's expired about a year now! Can you book a test and cancel it once the licence comes? Cause I definitely couldn't sit it :pac:

    From NDLS.ie,
"If applying for a third or subsequent Learner permit, documentary evidence must be submitted that you have either sat a driving test (statement of driving test outcome dated within two years) or an acknowledgement of a forthcoming test."

No mention of any penalty if you were to cancel/postpone the Test after receiving your 3rd Learner Permit.

An expensive solution, but I suppose I should suck it up and do it!

Hey, I have a 2nd learner permit that expired last March, so you're saying I just apply for the test and then apply for the third permit?
What if I haven't done any driving lessons at all though, so I just book a test for about 2 months away and just cram the lessons in?
I had a provisional license in the old system, that hardly exempts me from the 12 lessons step does it? Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the slight thread hijack OP!

You can apply for a test and cancel it twice without penalty once you're called.

It's only if you cancel it three times that you forfeit the fee.

EDT lessons are not required if your first learner permit was issued before 4 April 2011 so it depends when it was first issued.
