    Hi,

Firstly I'd like to state I'm not looking for medical advice, just some guidance.

    My story briefly,

I was having stomach pain for a week and seen the doctor who presumed I had an ulcer and gave me 40mg of omeprazole for 3 months. This never worked after the 3 months and he sent me for an endoscopy.

I then developed a chronically sore throat that nothing will alleviate. I tried diet, raising the head of he bed, Gaviscon advance, omeprazole 40mg.

I had my endoscopy which showed gastritis and esophagitis.

My doctors solution was 40mg of omeprazole again. For another 3 months.

I'm in pain with my throat everyday and it really hurts, I don't even know if it is acid burning my throat or something else..

Occasionally I will taste blood then spit it out.

I asked my GP to send me to a GI and an ENT which he is doing but waiting lists are over 8 months he said.

I'm in so much pain and don't know what to do..

    Can anyone suggest anything?

I was thinking of going private to see the ent and then if something needed done I would switch back public but not sure if I can.

My doctor doesnt want me to visit him because he just complains that I see him too often.

    Mod note

As stated by the OP, please do not offer medical advice e.g. treatments to try or possible diagnoses. Suggestions on how best to access specialist ENT care are welcome.

I have health insurance but to get an endoscope I still had to pay until it was warranted by my health. I paid for a private gastro buf the fees do add up, even with health insurance.

Why do you want to see a gastrointestinal doctor? Anyway, they'll all take your money to go for private consultation, dare say they'll suggest tests which you could pay for or hop back on the waiting list for public treatment afterwards.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Im not too sure on who to see, I don't know which would be better and my doctor just says I can't do anything else for you.

Sorry you're not having any luck. Would your practice have another GP, maybe see him/her instead?

Thanks, yeah I think I'm going to have to do that.

When I was suffering from that I'd get pain on one side of my throat, always the right side. I'd also suggest another doctor - I went to mine numerous times over stomach pain/chest pain and she kept ignoring me, wasn't until she was out and a younger doctor took me that I got a proper consultation and got a referral to a gastro consultant (didn't have to wait 8 months though!)
Have you looked at your diet at all? I was on 80mg of omeprazole for over a year - then they just took me off it...that was over a year ago and I haven't been back about it though sometimes still have symptoms which I have linked to types of foods. I think my esophagitis was caused by stress though.

Just FYI, PMing is fine DTQ but if you do have an update and don't mind sharing, it would be great to post it on the thread so that others reading may be able to benefit from your experience.

My update isn't much of one:

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

I have been to see a GI in tallaght hospital and will be scheduled for some procedures. I'll be waiting for another 3 months unfortunately.

My sore throat improved a little but it's still sore daily, my voice is gone and I just have to whisper. I can't do anything. It's so debilitating.
