What is the best way to clear briars from a drainage ditch.
I also have excess stone from an old homestead. Would it help to place them in the ditch creating a more stable gully? Tnks

    Briars are a feckin weed!
If ya can get in at the bottom of them and cut them with a long handled loppers. But if it's in a drain that mightn't be an option

My point is if they are covering a drain no dirt or no light gets into it so is stays clean and the water runs freely

Grazon will kill briars if sprayed a few times

Wait till the drain is dry and spray with grazon.
Don't spray with water in the drain as it will go straight into a river

Would a pull of a drainage bucket not be the handiest option clean the edge and briars could be heaped and burnt at the end of the year. Any lad on a 12 ton would clear some area in no time.

don't think grazon kills gorse, Grazon is for spot spraying so it doesnt use much, 100ml in a knapsack.....not like you'd be doing an acre or anything

Think it does . Roundup kills too quick for gorse. A lot of briars sprayed , spot spraying .

proper stocking rate is a huge advantage in keeping boundaries tidy, under ditches is the first place that stock give up grazing when the place is understocked.......very easy to run along a boundary with grazon when it's well grazed

Would 1 lt of grazing make up much to use as a headland spray in litres

    I think there's about 20ltrs in a knapsack sprayer so it'd be 8 or 9 knapsacks.....

60ml in 10 L is the recommended rate I think

Will grazon kill furze bushes have a lot starting to come back on a ditch that was cleaned two years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭SKIPPY150

it will kill them but you will have to spray the gorse at least twice in my experience to fully kill them especially if there well established
