2007 Renault Scenic, the automatic Handbrake couldn't be disengaged the other day had to get car towed and local Indy garage said it was the motor and only Renault main dealer could fix it for approx €1300+ ... the car was only bought for €2500!!

Does anyone out there fix this for cheaper? Surely it's a common fault with the French cars of the same era with those auto Handbrakes?

Yeah the are not cheap and are prone to failure. I don't know of any spurious alternative. You can take your chances and fit a used module but you don't know what you're getting and you still need a main dealer to recode it.

The only cheaper alternative is a used one on Ebay UK, or get existing one repaired http://www.parkingbrakerepair.com/page16.html.
I picked up one on Ebay complete with cables for £100 plus postage. My mechanic fitted it, didn't need Renault to recode.
