    Just a quick question
Do people prefer to read the line of a putt from behind ball or from behind hole or both.
If both and u get different reads what one do u go with.

99% of the time just from behind the ball. On a long putt I might have a look from behind the home, and occasionally from either side of the putt.

I read a quote from some famous short game coach, think it might have been Dave Pelz (though not 100%) that the best read is rotten from behind the ball. So that tends to be the overriding read for me if in doubt

    Behind the ball for me.

Sometimes from halfway for longer putts.
Never saw the benefit of going behind the hole. It's slow and can over complicate things.

There's a different perspective looking uphill then downhill. You'll read putts better looking uphill.

This is more important then behind ball or behind hole

The best golfing tip I ever got was from my Grandad who once told me that when you walk onto the green, the very first line you see is the line to take. Since then I've followed this advice religiously and considering putting is the strongest part of my game, I think its pretty solid advice.

    +1

I'd look at it as trying to determine how the ball can 'fall' into the hole.
So I go behind the hole for downhill to see how the ball with fall.

Alternatively, against gravity, aka uphill, I think it's easier reading a putt from behind the ball.
