This one is for those with fat-tyre & mud proclivities rather than skinny road tyres.

The Steel City Downhill race 2017 has started taking bookings for anyone who fancies their chances on what is described as a mini-DH (don't let that fool you, I've seen more than a few people carted off on stretchers with broken bits) or wants to a) try something a little different and b) take in some new sights as it were. Race is 20th May in Grenoside woods in Sheffield, on what is a a black-rated course although B-lines are available (and you will most likely get heckled for taking the chicken run ... ).

Even if you're not racing, it's a lot of fun to spectate and across the road (quite literally) from Grenoside woods is Wharncliffe woods which has some fun trails to play about and make a weekend out of. You also have Parkwood springs and Lady Cannings Reservation trails not far away [both in Sheffield] and which are both maintained by RideSheffield.

No idea if Peaty is racing this year. Last year there were a few big names turned up to race, including the aforementioned Steve Peat and Tracey Mosley. So if you're racing, you can compare your times to theirs, like the 15 year old lad who did a single run and had the .. I think .. 3rd fastest time across every single category including the elite category.

    Here's a video from last year's race:
