Any GAA Clubs need Stats done for free?

    Hello GAA Board,

Mods - please feel free to delete if post is out of charter.

I have a keen interest in sports and stats and love combining the two of them as hobby. I love analyzing games and seen where teams have weaknesses and advantages etc.

I have a lot of spare time on my hand at the moment so was looking to break into a role with a GAA Team.

Is there any clubs that would like to have stats for a particular game done for them?

I prefer do mine after the game through DVD and present them to the club then.

Any clubs interested give me a PM

Who pays for the dvd to be done?

It's not unusual for clubs to have their own camera and do the recording themselves these days. Some saving compared to paying a business to record the game, the camera will pay itself back after one season easily.

I even gave a hand recording games over the years, never anything special, just follow the ball and get a good overview of the field and positions of the players.

    Thanks for the replies

Well as shmeee said, a lot of clubs video their matches and use them to watch over.

Where a lot of clubs fall down on is actually analyzing games and what stats are important.

But if needs be I can video the game myself - although quality wouldn't be rte or anything it does the job for club games.

Our club hasn't videoed a game in over 8 years, apart from semi finals and finals

I'd say most clubs are the same

I'd have thought most clubs still video games. I certainly see cameras at quite a few matches.

It's usually an extra expense on clubs

What sort of analysis do you do?
    Do you use some software?

I know a team manager who had his young lad record matches on an iPad and used spend the night after a match doing up the stats himself, pen and paper job. No real cost but woefully time consuming for a bloke who had a full time job.

Best of luck in the search op.

Not around our area, the top teams would all video their matches, league games etc.

Then break down the video and show players, strengths and weaknesses etc.

Most clubs would have some sort of video, be it a handheld camera or one on a stand.

Seen a stand last year that was about 8 or 9 meters high and had a camera at the top, and a screen at the bottom to see the action, it was some job, very good overview of the field.

I have developed my own software using Excel that is just as good as most software out there - just makes slight more work for me inputting the data

Pitch graphs - showing wides and scores but can be used to show kick out's, frees etc

Individual analaysis - each players stats. Possessions, turnovers, scores, wides, hand passes complete & incomplete, same with foot passes, kickouts won & lost, Frees conceded/won.

It also depends on the team. Some managers might want more emphasis on certain stats over other managers.

Thin that pretty much sums it up.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

    Thanks

Like I said, if any club happens to have a Video of a match, I can do up a match analysis so they can see for themselves.

    Regards
