There seems to be news about new battery tech like this nearly every month, but Goodenough is one of the people behind the development of Li-ion batteries which has become the de facto standard.

This has great potential use in EVs as the electrolyte is glass, essentially making the batteries solid state and much safer (less likely to catch fire for one thing) than Li-ion. Charging and discharge rates are also much greater than current Li-ion tech.

There is a whole range of options in the R & D pot ATM. Surely, a couple will come to fruition.
Titanium Dioxide, the whitening stuff in sun block, can be used to make rapid current uptake on the anode.

Need will drive solutions. There is a big need now for batteries that have a higher storage density and can be charged in a short time frame.
