Travelling to Cuba from America

I'm going on a work trip to Orlando and have always wanted to go to Cuba and set myself this year to go. I hoped to piggy back off this trip and travel from Miami to Cuba for a few days but the Cuban embassy shot that idea down by saying I'd need to be going for official reasons, not leisure. Has anyone by any chance…
