I have applied for this and now have 5 days to complete online verbal, numerical and logical assessments. Does anyone have any experience with this form of assessment or any advice as to how to prepare for it?

I bought two books in Hodges Figes, one for advanced verbal reasoning and the other for avanced mathematical reasoning, and did all the exercises in them. Most others who work at CBI did something similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Visaquestion

Thanks for the reply. Do you have the names of those books handy by any chance? And, assuming you took these assessments, do you remember what form the questions in the logical assessment took? Were they mostly diagrammatic?

I really only have two days to prepare for this as I only have access to a decent internet connection for that time. Would buying the books be worthwhile in that case?

Loads of tables in the math assessments calculation of probabilities etc. it's the same assessment that KPMG use IIRC.

I'm not near the books but if you can get to a big bookshop they'll have a section on psychometric testing. It's a small investment but CBI are not the only organisation that use them for graduate recruitment.

Isn't the initial application process still open?

Yeah, it closed at 5pm. How do you know when the tests are taking place?

I received an email telling me to take the test within 5 days. I can do it at any time.

I would advise you to do as many sample questions as you can before taking the tests. You will gain familiarity with the style of questioning and the amount of time you should spend on each question. Below is a link to some sample tests :

    Sample questions

Completed the tests for this graduate programme recently. Practiced for days in particular with the numerical reasoning tests, but even with as much prep as I did, couldnt complete the test within the time. Ended up guessing the remaing 15+ without even reading the question. Hopes are slim of getting through!

Anyone go for an interview yet? What type of questions were they asking? I've mine late next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭SBWife

They use a behavioural interview format - use STAR techniques for answers in one to ones. Be aware of what the CBI does in terms of both regulation and monetary policy. Make sure to read up values and behaviours stuff on website.

Out of interest - when did you submit your application? I sent mine in on the 13th (deadline day), no word yet. Cheers

Submitted on the 11th and invited to online tests on the 12th. A mate of mine is in the exact same situation as you though, think he's gonna send an email soon

Thanks for reply. Yeah I figure that there were plenty of apps submitted on deadline day, might take a while to sift through them. Best of luck in the interview. Let us know how it goes ;)

I've not even been given the tests yet, but some people have interviewed. The first stage isn't complete until May 22nd..we're in for a long wait on this one, final offer in August..

Have an interview next week for it. Any advice would be great!

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had a response to confirm whether or not you've got through to the next stage? Or any idea of when we should hear?

    Thanks

I've not heard back yet, I was told it would be towards the end of May that we will be told.

Same with myself, no word back yet but should be any day now! They did say end of May.

Congratulations. Did you just find out today?

Haven't heard anything back myself. What dates are they calling you back for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 354 ✭✭apc

Found out on the 24th. Called back for sometime in the middle of June. Competence based interview in the CBI offices

Great stuff APC! Congrats, and best of luck with the next interview. Probably not a great sign if we haven't been told by now, but they haven't sent around the rejections emails as of yet.

Disappointed to receive the email telling me I wouldn't be progressing yesterday but was asked if I wanted to be considered for an entry level role so that's something, at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 EJD123

Unlucky Visaquestion, you'll get something else I'm sure. Did they give you any info on the entry level positions? Is the grad prog not entry level...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭TimeClock18

Received a phone call yesterday and a follow up email letting me know I won't be progressing. No mention of any other positions though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Visaquestion

About the entry level role, they said that they are establishing a talent pool for entry level positions that are separate to the grad programme. There is no rotation as with the grad programme and the salary is worse at 25k. They expect to be interviewing from the 19th June.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 woollyworth

The entry level role basically means you'd be starting on the first grade in the Bank which is Bank Officer. The grad programme has the perk of starting on the next grade up which is Bank Executive. Normally you'd need some experience before getting a Bank Executive role.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Visaquestion

Ah, I didn't actually know that.

Just got a phone call to say I wouldnt be progressing forward, disappointing as I thought the interview went well! Haven't receieved any email as of yet.

Anyone done the second round yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭SBWife

If it's any consolation many on the grad program would have at least a Masters and or a couple of years experience.

if anybody else got accepted, send a message!

    Hi apc,

I’m presuming that you got on the programme, so well done! For yourself and anyone else who did, I’m part of the most recent grad programme in the Bank, and although they’re changing it up significantly going by what was advertised for your cohort, I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme or the Bank in general via PM.

    Hi,

I reached the second interview stage (last 50) and didn't progress further. I was then invited to apply for the entry level positions, I have since accepted an offer.

Has anyone else been offered an entry level position and/or accepted it?

    PM me

Hi I've been accepted to the second interview for the 2018 graduate programme which I was advised by email involves an presentation. For the 2017 programme did you have to do a presentation? If so, what was the topic and how long before your interview date were you given the topic? Starting to panic so would appreciate any bit of help! Thank you! ☺

    Hi everyone,

I'm a student in my penultimate year of college, intending to apply for the central bank grad programme next year.

Would any of you be willing give me some advice in terms of maximizing my chances of succeeding?

Regardless of if you were successful or not, I'd love some help!

    Thank you.

Hi, I know this is an old thread although I have a phone screening for this. Any advice?

I never had a phone screening last year, must be a new thing this year. So I'm afraid I can't offer advice although if it's an actual interview treat it the same as you would a face-to-face interview. Someone else might be able to advise you better!

How did your phone screening go? What kind of things were you asked. I just got an email about a phone screening too
