Very funny trailer for new Ryan Reynolds/Samuel L Jackson action movie. Genius choice of music too. :)

Gary Oldman and Salma Hayek also star.

Out in August. Language in trailer is NSFW.

I actually found the the trailer massively disappointing, barely cracked a smile and it's a shame as they are 2 of my favorite actors. I sense disappointment but I hope I'm wrong.

    Not a bad movie, a decent 6/10.

It would have benefited from a sharper script - SLJ saying "motherf**ker" every second sentence got a bit jaded after half an hour and it was a two hour movie.

It had some really great action scenes, a decent soundtrack (Spiderbait's Black Betty was well used and Lionel Richie got the biggest laugh of the night) and the climax was very well done.

I think it's fair to say that two peripheral characters (played by Gary Oldman and Salma Hayek) stole the show from the two leads.

Still, a good 6/10 and entertaining enough.

    just back from it myself.

yeah its grand. reynolds and jackson bounce off each other very well and the actions great. the scene where jackson meets selma hyak is brillant, but theres more than enough others to keep you intrested.

its got a weird "Red" kinda vibe off it so if you liked that you'll probably like this. i probably liked it a bit more than others cause i was in amsterdam last year and seen alot of places i visited there, including a breif shot of the hotel i stayed at with me mates.

grand way to pass a rainy afternoon.

    6/10 from me too.

I'd agree a grand entertaining middle of the the road film 6 out of 10 from me as well.

Everytime Oldman was on screen all I saw was how is character from Leon would look now 23 years later.

If you happen to be in Japan it's on Netflix there.

looks like a straight to DVD effort

Watch it last night, and I'd be with the majority - it's grand. It could have benefited from being a bit shorter and tighter, but overall, it was a light bit of entertainment with some great scenes, and a pretty good use of the soundtrack too.

Yeah, caught it during the week. Fairly enjoyable light entertainment. Both Jackson and Reynolds bounced well off one another. Found Gary Oldman basically wasted in his role.

I used to love SLJ. Now I can't stand him. Shouting in every film.

Watched last night. Thought it was terrible, unfunny with Sam Jackson too over the top...

Did you notice the dig about that when Reynolds was drinking at the kiosk in Amsterdam? "The guy singlehandedly ruined the word motherfucker".:p

Wah? A great buddy movie, really enjoyable for what it is, motherfcukers!

He's going to bodyguard boy bands, because if one of those gets taken out nobody's going to care too much :pac:

Seen this last night and actually really enjoyed it. Probably helped that all I knew of it was the name.

I thought it was a good laugh and never really took itself too seriously. Some of it was very predictable (including the 'unexpected' scenes) but by and large a relatively well done light-hearted action film.

Sometimes I find films like this start off by taking themselves really seriously, and when they start to dramatize things and make the lead characters 'overcome the odds' it completely takes you out of the film altogether. You can almost see the boom operator.

But I thought this handled it well and didn't have too many 'unrealistic' scenes (within the context of the film as a whole, I mean).

I had just found this thread, though, and I watched the official trailer. And I'm glad I never seen the trailer for it, because it ruins the film. Maybe I'm a bit weird, but I love a trailer that's short and sweet, or has content created specifically for the trailer, so it's not spoiling the film itself.

I remember this trailer coming on in a cinema, and it was one of the best trailers I'd ever seen. Everyone loved it.

A hit at the box office so the sequel is on the way.

Hitman's Bodyguard' Sequel 'Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard' in the Works
The first film — starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek — earned $177 million.
Millennium Films is lining up further assassination hijinks with a sequel to its 2017 hit The Hitman's Bodyguard.

Titled The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, the film is being touted on posters in Cannes, alongside other major franchise titles "coming soon" from the action specialists, including Angel Has Fallen, The Expendables 4, Rambo V and Mechanic 3.

While no script is yet available, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is described in the Cannes market catalog as "The Good. The Bad. And the Bat**** cray." Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are believed to be reprising their roles, although the casting hasn't been confirmed, while Patrick Hughes is thought to be returning to the director's chair. Tom O'Connor – who wrote the original and has one of Cannes' hot market titles in his Cold War spy thriller Ironbark, with Benedict Cumberbatch attached to star – is working on the follow-up.

The 2017 original — starring Reynolds and Jackson, alongside Gary Oldman and Salma Hayek — became a global smash, topping the U.S. box office for three straight weeks and earning an overall haul of $177 million from a $30 million budget.

Must admit would probably go see most of the films listed on the action specialists' roster.

I couldn't even finish it I thought it was so bad and I would usually really be a big fan of these sort of movies.

I watched it on a flight recently.

I thought it was an entertaining, turn your brain off kinda movie with a few laughs.

I would never have considered it something with sequel potential. But if they can do something similar again with a few laughs then it will do well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

The first one wasnt bad, as long as you had no expectations and only went in to be mildly entertained.

Two outcomes, its either going to flop badly, as these type of sequels can do, or they'll make some money off it and everyone involved will be happy but I cant see it being a "smash hit" like the first one.

This in Irish Netflix now, watched it the other night.

Funny if predictable, Salma Hayek was great :P
