I've started to travel a lot more these days (just back from a trip across Asia and Australia). I've an upcoming trip to Cuba coming, and planning a lot more through out the rest of the year. I have travel and contents insurance, but to be honest, it doesn't quite cut it. I think it insures up to about €1000 worth of gear which doesn't cover half the cost of my 70-200, let alone my macbook pro, body and the array of other lenses I carry. The contents insurance only covers fire and theft from with in my home, but unfortunately nothing abroad.

Can anyone give their experience with any of the camera insurance products and insurers? Cheapest I've found is approx €350 for the year for about €10k worth of insure-able gear, aimed at the semi pro (so you get business insurance and liability etc.)

Make sure you advise them of your travel plans and check if there is a maximum number of days away covered on the quote you got.

Also make sure you have everything that you are traveling with, is covered under your total sum insured. As if you are unfortunate to be in a position where all you gear is taken you need to make sure it is replaced new for old and that you are not under insured where the average clause would kick in.
