VW problems...need help urgently!

    So I just bought a 2002 VW bora 1.9 tdi 130bhp. Bought it knowing it has a problem just can't figure out what it is. It has a burst pipe coming from the bottom of the intercooler, that flutters and isn't building boost but aside from that there is a knocking noise and I have been told it's the camshaft or a piston but I'm not convinced, there's no blue or white smoke, only black but a lot of it...when I took off the air box there was excessive sucking and when turned off there's a kick back, any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you

    Worked on loads of these. Remove rocker cover & inspect lobes on camshaft for wear. Also check the hydraulic buckets which sit under these lobes for holes. Great car.

    Heavy Black smoke usually when leaking/blown intake pipes. Check intake system, sometimes knocking could be caused by fault alternator belt tensioner. Take alternator belt off, start the car, if knocking gone, deffo tensioner.
