I am thinking about buying a Volkswagen Polo in 1.4 diesel 2008

Does anyone know much about these cars.

    Are they great little cars??

Need advice as buying in the next day or so.

    Thanks.

Unless you're doing high mileage, I wouldn't bother with a diesel. It will be more hassle than it's worth.

And if you are doing high mileage, I wouldn't recommend such a small car either.

If it is the three cylinder version of old 1.9 tdi, I would pick this over petrol engines even you are not doing high mileage.

It is rough and tractorish but more reliable than 1.2 petrol and it doesn't have dpf as far as I know from my 07 fabia 1.4tdi.

I'd definitely wait/save and buy the newer model one, came out in 2010 AFAIK.

We had a 2009 1.4tdi Polo before and the engine was fierce noisy in it, wasn't that much of a comfortable car atal.

Have a 161 1.4tdi Polo now and it's like a Ferrari compared to it. Much nicer to drive, way more comfortable and the engine noise is minimum. Also has more features and looks great.

That engine is very rough at idle and vibration from engine is present in cabin but it is not too bad when moving.

If I am buying a 8-9 years old diesel car, I would go for simpler design with less things to go wrong. Non-turbo petrols are even better in that aspect but 1.2 lt petrol engine in Polo is not a good example.
