Renault keycard

My Renault clio is just over a year old. It has a key card which you slot into (or just have it in the car) and push start button.
The car was serviced last month and has about 9,600 kms on it, approx. 6,000 thousand kms done since end of Oct, very little driving on it before then.
Warning came up on my dash that the keycard battery is low. How can that happen and the car just over the year old? My previous Renault I think I had to change the battery once in my keyfob in the 8 years I had it. Is the keyfob going to go every year? Renault is quoting €40 to replace the battery. Is this some sort of scam to squeeze extra money out of people?

Yeah I've gotten a new battery to put into it. But I'm just surprised and a bit suss that it would run out after a year with not much driving. And no-one mentioned it when the car was brought in for service.

Yes seems a short time,My car is an Auris 2011 and I have never replaced the key fob battery.Hopefully you get longer with the new battery.

That's grand. I was trying to suss out whether it's normal for it to go. But I think my suspicions are confirmed, it's probably just a cheap ass battery that will run out quickly and Renault can make a fast buck on it. They would probably replace it with another crappy battery.

In my previous Renault the front light bulbs were really difficult to get at to replace. I'm a strong advocate for driving with lights on no matter what time of the day or night. My bulbs kept going in no time and I was spending a fortune at the local dealer getting them replaced, they lasted no length and would go again. They even told me to stop driving with my lights on! Ended up sussing out a way of getting in at the bulbs to change them myself and the standard bulbs from the motor factors lasted way longer than the Renault bulbs!
