When you say all your life what age are you were you ever told that the farm would be yours if you were you might have a case

When counting "most of your life" when you worked the farm do exclude any years you weren't earning your own money outside the farm. If you were being kept and pocket money from the farm that was your payment for those years worked.

Also, did whomever is getting the farm also "work most of their life" on the farm or are they breezing in to take over having never stood in a gap before ??

I never knew that. I think I am being screwed over.
They don't accept money off me for anything unless it's trivial like the shopping.

    This may sound harsh.

But have you been told your not getting the farm. If so why are you still there helping ?

I would walk away and try and get a couple of grand together and differently emigrate. You have built up great skills on the farm that will stand to you all over the world. Farmers sons and daughters are in high demand where ever you go. You should leave in good terms, family is very important, You don't have to walk away from farming, it can be a good career in other countries like UK ,Saudi, and NZ .you could head for Australia and go mining 125000 a year. I wish you well in what ever road you take

What he said . That's great advise

However I ask again . Have said out right that your not getting the farm or are you presuming you won't . A lot of problems in farms been signed over stems from what not said. Not what said

Tis no consolation but this type of situation has probably happened on every family farm in Ireland at some stage.

It's like a death: everything changes and there's no going back to how things were before. All any of us can do is deal with it as best we can, and then move on.

"Thread water" for a while if you can at all. Consider what options you have and the consequences of each one. I wasn't in exactly the same situation as you, but there are some similarities. I emigrated and it was the best thing I ever did.

Seems you have a path in mind for yourself.

I'm probably a fair bit older than you and maybe been through more direction changes, some I wanted and some I didn't. My advice is don't be bitter, make a decision and be happy with it, sounds like in return for the work you put in you were kept and got an education to bring you forward.

The OP sounds as if he/she has put more into this enterprise than he/she is getting out of it!

Probably no social welfare or pension contribution have been paid. The easy way out for the 'family' would be for the OP to leave without a fuss to them.

Court cases have been won by people who worked their whole lives on farms for a pittance. A bit of legal advice would not go astray here.

I didn't think this was stll happening in the year 2017 the OP is not giving us much information here but the title of tread suggests that his name was in the will or something we don't know the size of the farm which would make a big difference here I was involved in something similar my self 30 years ago and I had enough and just walked I did get compensated a few years later, and had a great relationship with my father when I stoped working for him. I would be very slow on going the legal route, a little break away from the place might do you good

A break would be good. I know I am not getting the farm but you would like some reward for all the help. Better leaving.
