Over the last while I've noticed the speed camera warning signs on the M50 not that I'd be on the M50 much

Finally seen a Go Safe van parked up on garda observation posts on the m50 today around the carrigmines section northbound ... what's the story with them parked on motor ways? I thought they could only be used on R and N roads.
