Raid 1 Array help

    Hey everybody,

Trying to set up a RAID array and have been reading online to no conclusions so would really appreciate any advice here.

I recently bought a dell desktop with 256GB SSD and 2TB standard hard drive. I bought another 2TB hard drive (same model as the existing hard drive) and want to set it up as a RAID mirror of the existing 2TB hard drive. I put no files on the 2TB hard drive in anticipation of setting up Raid but there were some files on the hard drive when I bought the computer.

AFAIK, the computer allows setting up a hardware RAID array. Can anyone give me pointers on how to do this please? (I am particularly worried about the files that were on the 2TB hard drive when I got the computer - will i lose them?)

    Thank you

I'd assume you will lose them so backup anything you care about (but you're doing that anyway of course and remember raid is not a backup it only saves you from a drive dying).

If you want hardware raid then you probably have to hit the right keys during the boot sequence to get into the hardware menus to set it up. If you are still struggling then telling everybody the motherboard and/or hardware raid card you are using will probably be enough for someone to give you better instructions.

RAIDing conventional disks without TLER isnt the best idea. Can work, but leaves you open to problems. Unless ofc it came with a suitable HDD in the first place.
