Can a GP offer an instant glucose test or do they need to send a blood/urine sample to a hospital lab?

they should have a dipstick to test your urine, and I'd say most GP services would have a blood glucose monitor too! You could just ring the clinic and ask!

You can get that done in many pharmacies these days.

Your GP will have one but as Tropheus said, many pharmacies do health checks like that too.
