Nct fail on rust

Failed the nct on rust on the bonnet of my 17 year old car today. He told me to get a new one. I accept that it is not in a good state but is it handier to get a new one or could it be fixed up? Its just a visual recheck with a couple more ninor things.. thanks

Is it a common enough car in a popular colour?

There should be hundreds of them in scrapyards around the country, shouldn't be any issue finding one the same colour which will be a direct replacement.

I had to get a new bonnet due to rust last year to pass NCT too. Was a silver Ibiza, paid around 50 euro from a scrapyard
