What's the best form of technology to have play a particular sound while you sleep?

It's because I've tinnitus and I need a background noise when I sleep. I've been setting up my laptop to play a particular recording on VLC, and I set the PC to shut down after an hour and a half. I've a feeling this has began to take it's tole on the laptop's speakers. It's a certain amount of hassle this way too.

I'd like something that doesn't rely on signals, and that wouldn't have any lights on it. I'd be inclined to think a small CD player that I could have along with a speaker.

    Anyone any recommendations?

    I've no smart phone.

Separate question though - Is it possible to set up a Dell vostro for a blue tooth speaker?
