Hi all, thanks to a recent groupset upgrade on my bike, I now have a spare groupset lying around and am looking to build up a bike for a friend with my spare parts.

    The requirements are:
    • relaxed style geometry, suitable for someone who's 6ft - as an example, a 58cm Specialized Allez felt stretched for this person, but a 56cm older Trek roadbike (unsure of model) and a 56cm 13 Intuition Gamma bike felt just right
    • less than €150 for frameset (but would be able to offer more if any of wheels/bar/stem/seatpost etc. are included)
    • threaded BB only
    • ideally carbon fork/alloy steerer but would take no fork/chromo fork if the price was right
    • caliper brake mounts
    • brand and age of bike not important, once it's structurally sound - I don't mind a bit of dodgy paintwork!
Based in Dublin, but willing to travel up to around an hour to have a look at the frame.

Let me know if you have anything suitable.

    Thanks!

Don't have a frame but do have some old road wheels and a set of bars that you could have for the taking away. The wheels are RD80 and I should have some tyres, skewers and cassette for them (9sp or 10sp campag). Bars are alu ergo, not sure of the make. All well used but may be of some help to get you on the road.

There's a Dolan frame up for sale there now. It's our of budget st €250 but a nice frame for your mate to start on

The Dolan for sale is mine, as iwillhtfu has said it's a bit outside your budget but is an absolutely perfect starter bike frame. I can't do anything on price but if your friend is 6ft I'm assuming they're around my size, I can throw in an Altura shorts/jersey set (used by very rarely), arm and leg warmers (think they're DHB, again used but in good nick) and a couple of gilet/rainjackets. If they're also a size 45 shoe I'll include a pair of Shimano road shoes, fair bit of use on them but will do for now.

That would be amazing thanks, and very happy to throw you a few quid for them.

I can PM you to arrange pick up?

Thanks Statler and iwillhtfu, I did indeed have a look at that frame and it's a beaut! My concern was that it may be a bit aggressive for this guy, but any reading I've done does indeed suggest it's a bit more relaxed. Any issue would be that I'll be getting jealous of the frame!! Can you arrange to meet up to take a look at €250? Thanks

Definitely wouldn't worry about it being too aggressive geometry wise. No problem arranging a viewing, but just to keep us both out of trouble I think you have to make the offer on the for sale thread... I'll send you a PM then and we can arrange...

No problem, will offer on that thread now. Thanks!

Cool, I'll send you a PM. If you want to chuck a few bob to the Simon community if they work out for you that'd be cool.

Thanks a million! More than happy to give a few quid to the Simon community

Just want to say a big thanks to Statler and Smacl. The bike is built up and had a few successful spins at the weekend in the hills of Mayo. I think we have another convert to cycling!
