BMW 8 speed auto box versus VAG DSG (reliability)

Drove a BMW 1 series with an 8 speed Autobox recently and it was a pleasant experience over a manual box. Missus wants to change to an Audi next year but I'm thinking she should get a DSG or a BMW 1 Series with 8 speed autobox given her gear changing style with a six speed manual box. It is a lot of work!

Which system is more reliable and durable? I'm thinking the DSG is still problematic and expensive to maintain. Anyone have current experience of these systems reliability?

I'd go with BMW... But the wet DSGs are fine as well, especially in our climate

Modern DSG boxes are very reliable, some are now maintenance free too.

BMW autos are fantastic and the ZF auto tranmissions are used by a lot of companies now.
I don't think I'd ever go back to a manual..autos are way handier for when you're trying to drive your car and eating a 99.

There are 4 cars in our house with a variation of that 8 speed ZF box. Two 1 series, a 4 series and an Audi A8. The 142 1 series feels slightly different to the 151 but I'd say that is due to a software difference more than anything. Makes a very good car into a fantastic car in my opinion, I have a old plugger of a Volvo with an aisin warner box that feels as clunky and dim witted compared to the ZF. Go for a 1er, they are a cracking little car!
