I'm wondering if you can give cough bottle to a3 year old. She's picked up a cough from play school. She's not coughing up anything, but it also doesn't sound completely dry.

It's quite annoying (for her and us). We got her glycerine honey & lemon to sooth her throat but not sure if it's OK to give cough bottle to young kids. I thought it was but my wife is saying she read somewhere that it's recommended not to give it to young kids.....

    Bit confused!

If I recall correctly, they changed the age for cough medicine 4 or 5 years ago, based on pharmaceutical guidelines. I don't remember what the old starting age for it used to be, assume 3 or 4, but overnight it went to 6. This meant the Benylin cough mix we had been using, was suddenly not to be used even though the formula was the same.

Check the age on exputex in your chemist. I think it's younger than a lot of others, but I can't recall exactly!

Exputex starts at 2, but is very different to a cough bottle. It'll break down mucas that may assist in reduced coughing, but is not an answer to a persistent cough. I'd recommend speaking to your pharmacist for advice, but coughs like this will feature a bit over the years and sometimes can be unresponsive to medicine, so just have to run their course.
