The Kalief Browder Story.

Did any of you watch his story? It was in six parts and I watched the last of them yesterday. I find myself still thinking of Kalief.

I knew of his story two years ago and that JayZ was interested in bringing it to the screen (Jay had met him and I think he was the 'anonymous benefactor' who had offered to pay for Kalief's college education.

What makes his story so sad is that he was innocent, you can tell just by his total stance and his refusal to take the easy way out. Plus, he was just a kid...16 years old.

Plus, even if he had been guilty....over three years in Rikers with no trial, no nothing, with almost two in solitary was wrong...just so wrong. They drove that young lad out of his mind.

I will never forget Kalief or his Mama. His Dad was a piece of chit and should be ashamed.

If you have not seen it. Watch it. Its so powerful. He was so strong standing up to them and keeping his name clean, to then not being able to cope when he came home...

Rest in Peace Kalief. You have sparked change.

Edit ; I read the wiki about him , very sad , America is a place that seems to becoming increasingly lacking in humanity and social care for the poorer in society

stole a back pack, went to jail.
later killed himself, i'm sure the conspiracy theorists see the two events as related

Accused of stealing a backpack, spending 3 years in prison without trial and 800 days on solitary confinement is hardly a glowing endorsement of the way the justice system handled the case. The fact that he could have walked out of prison if he took a plea deal but instead chose to stand trial says alot about the position he was in.

He wasn't though. If you watch the whole thing you will know he wasn't. Even if he had been though, what they did to him was all kinds of wrong.
