Dead ringer is a horse scam.

The phrase in often inaccurately associated with premature burial prevention products. Like Saved by the Bell, which originated in the sport of boxing.

A dead ringer is a horse of similar appearance to another horse which is substituted into the starting order of a race. It's an ancient scam designed to defraud bookies.

My dad always puts a bet on for me in The Grand National and also if his horse wins, he gives me a cut of the money :)

I chose Definitively Red and Saphir Du Rheu.

I thought dead ringer was to do with being buried alive? They'd put a bell in the coffin just in case the person was only in a coma or something and if they woke they'd ring the bell to let people know they were alive. Although who would hear it from six feet under the ground I don't know.

On topic: I backed Vicente at 16/1 when he won the Scottish version last year so should reinvest some of that in him. Or maybe Pleasant Company or Stellar Notion

Still wrong. Apparently, when registered; the name of the horse was spelled (spelt?) 'Definitely' wrong. They spelled it as 'Definitly'
Useless fact of the day. Sorry:)

My lucky black cat Meg has made some mess on the bit of the newspaper with all the gee-gees listed in their square boxes.
So (in reverse order) of the cat markings, this is the order of winners she's choosen:

    8th place: Le Mercurey 66/1
7th place Gas Line Boy 66/1
    6th place: HDO 50/1
    5th place: Blaklion 14/1
    4th place: Stella Notion 50/1
    3rd place: Just A Par 40/1
    2nd place Tenor Nivermais 50/1

Either one of these two big dogs (that doesn’t fall) to win, most likely the ninja one:

    1st place: Perfect candidate: 40/1
1st place: The Last samurai 16/1

:D you know I had originally put "definitly" in my response because I googled it and then I edited it because I googled again and saw it written as "definitely" :o:)

Ah well, hope it wins anyway :)

    I prefer the flat

An extract from a recent post of mine on the Horse Racing forum :)

This is from an article from July 200 in Pacemaker (I keep lots of articles).
"Scott (Peter Scott of The Daily Telegraph) didn't suffer fools at all and only had eyes for the Flat. As we travelled back from the Grand National on the train in my early days, he would order a bottle of Medoc as he cleared Runcorn Bridge and beam: "Thank God that bloody dog race is over for another year". Asked why he would not report on the Breeders' Cup meeting, he would observe: "I don't attend junkies' jamborees".
