    Hey Guys,

Me and my wife planning to go to Neterlands in May, however there are no appointments for scehngen visa in Netherland's embassy in dublin till June!!! :(

I mistakenly assumed i would be able to get an appointment within a few weeks but now i am in a little bother as i have my flights, hotel and everything else booked but i still need a visa!

Can i apply in any of the other schengen countries for visa instead? :(

It's in Europe you don't need a visa unless your not European.

    That's a long wait.

Do you have flights/travel booked as yet?

If not, then consider flying to Belgium or Paris and then getting a train (preferably high speed) to Amsterdam or such.

And apply to the Belgium or French embassies instead.

I have been dealing with Belgium embassy for a few year now and they always bumped up appointment when they know my flight date is near. Very good to deal with. I can't understand how Dutch embassy wouldn't be the same unless they have a higher volume of applications.

I called dutch embassy they said they have a very high number of applicants and they cant bump it up unless its an emergency.. i told them i have to attend a concert, does that classify as an emergency? :D:D:D they said no.

I might give a call to the belgium embassy now.

That would be illegal and depending on the mood of the official on the day could result in a ban and or a fine!

Don't see why that would be illegal?

As per my understanding we are supposed to apply for visa in the country in which you arrive first so if i arrive in Belgium first and then travel to Amsterdam, i need to be applying to Belgium embassy. Also i think we can also apply to the country where stay is supposed to be longer, so if my stay in Amsterdam is greater than stay in Belgium, it should be the Netherlands embassy i should be going to.

Those are the 2 rules when considering where to apply for a visa :), However i cant go down that route as i already have flights booked to Amsterdam :(.

Btw I called a bunch of embassies (French, Italian, Danish, German, Spanish etc) however all appointments are now for June/July !.. Anyways i was able to get an appointment with Malta embassy though. I don't really want to travel to Malta, but since i want to travel to Amsterdam in May and Netherlands embassy don't have any appointments before May i don't see what option i have now? I'm now considering 2 options:

1 - Actually go to Malta for a few days although flights from Dublin are pretty expensive (Around €200 return for 1 person !). I don't really want to spend that much on a place i don't really want to go

2 - Book flights and accommodation for few days in Malta and apply for Visa on that basis. Once visa is processed, cancel my flights and ask for refund or to alter the flight to another destination where i want to go.

I'm leaning towards the 2nd option but I'm not sure if i can get into some sort of trouble for that.

I also called up a few travel agents and thought they might be able to help me out but nope!

    https://www.axa-schengen.com/en/visa-info

"Where do you apply for a European Schengen visa? Which embassy or consulate do you apply to for a Schengen visa?

If you are intending to visit just one Schengen country, you will need to apply for a visa with the embassy or the consulate of that particular country.

If you are looking to visit several Schengen countries, you will need to apply for a visa with the embassy or the consulate of the country that is your main destination.

If you are intending to visit several Schengen countries, but do not have a main destination, you will need to apply for a visa with the embassy or the consulate of the country where you will be entering the Schengen territory."

That is why i am now planning a visit to Malta for 3 days. My stay in Amsterdam is only 2 days. Hence Malta being the main destination :D

Everyone I know that comes from Iran, India, Turkey and Morocco just applies to the country where they land.

It's intention, many people just arrive and don't plan anything anyway.

Anyways, everyone I know went via Brussels it was easier than dealing with the IND, they never had any issues as long as your Schengen visa is in order it's fine.

Who knows where their going to spend most of their time if they have an Eurail pass anyway :D

It's a matter of knowing the requirements/laws (as ManUnited123 above pointed out) and sticking to them.

If you are going to a Concert in Amsterdam then you have options:
    1) Fly into amsterdam, do the concert and then head to another country for a longer stay - maybe fly out of Amsterdam again or out of the other country. Rail travel in Europe is relatively cheap.
    2) Or the opposite - fly into another country, have a great time sightseeing, then rail to your concert and fly back.

Apply to the country you intend to stay the longest.
Or if equal lengths then apply to the first country.

You just need to keep to the laws and requirements.
