Hi guys, just looking for some advice on what i should be looking out for when getting health insurance. there seems to be heaps of different plans but they all look very simillar to me.
bit of info about me, im 28, male, i do manual work so accidents are possible but thankfully none yet! not married and no kids either.
any recommondations of which companies are best (im thinking vhi as they are probably around the longest) or any advice from people that have had claims and what plan they are on would be great.
    Thanks

Have a look on the HIA website to compare plans.
    http://www.hia.ie/ci/health-insurance-comparison

For me if I was looking at plans the following would be important to me...
    • The location of the private/specialist hospitals from my home.
    • The level of excess I have to pay towards certain treatments.
    • What additional services are available like physio sessions etc.
    • I'm not interested in every day medical care like cover for doctors visits so that will reduce price of plan.

HIA is very good. I spent hours on that website before it was clear that Laya was the best value for what I wanted.

However, I didn't take out private health insurance until Varadkar changed the law a couple of years ago to penalise everybody over 35 who didn't have private health insurance.

If I were 28 again I'd probably not bother taking it out. Also, my policy went up by a massive 23% this month and some of the cover on what is the same plan was removed. It also went up by 10% the year before (you get tax relief on your premium at source/when you purchase it).
