Has anyone ever heard of Sky using a "verbal password" to access or verify account information, or is this just another wheeze to make cancellation virtually impossible?

That's standard. I just say don't know to get past it.

I know that many others have experience considerable difficulty in reaching Sky to cancel their subscriptions. The following may help:

"Section 53 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2007 provides that a commercial practice is aggressive if by harassment, coercion or undue influence it would be likely to cause significant impairment of the average consumer's freedom of choice or conduct in relation to the product concerned. In determining whether the commercial practice employs harassment, coercion or undue influence, the imposition of onerous or disproportionate non-contractual barriers by the trader when the consumer wishes to terminate the contract, exercise a contractual right or switch to another product or trader, shall be taken into account."

I would think the 'non-contractual barrier' is not answering their customer support number.

Also take a look at the following horror story:

    You are not alone!
