Hi All, I am finally forced to buy something, my car is falling apart and I need your help lol !
Okay, I am a hog when it comes to cars, I have no respect at all.
I surf and Kayak, so it will get abused.
I have a budget of 6, 7 K, could stretch it but don't want to lol !, Over 2008 to get cheaper tax, Diesel, I would like to use it for day to day use and hard ground like beaches.

Am I looking at a 4 wheel drive, can anyone recommend anything for me.
Folks thank you in advance !

Do you need 4wd? It sorta messes up the probability of getting something that meets the rest f the criteria.

    Thanks.

How much mileage do you do in a year? Don't base your decision on the price of the tax as any savings there will be wiped out in repairs to the engine if you only do short slow speed journeys.

Why not just buy a 2 k bangernomic etc if the car is going to be wrecked?

Thanks again folks, my current car is wrecked and I am sick of it. I am not saying it will be wrecked but over time it will get abuse, i would like something that i can retreat to after being out in cold weather, so that is an SUV I guess. I don't do many miles at all. I would be luck if i do 10,000 a year.
I guess I am looking for an economical SUV, (if such a thing exists).

    Stay away from diesel.

    It will break your heart.

Sure I have a Mondeo its coming up to 300k injectors are on way out. They are not a cheap fix.

You don't need a diesel, it will end up costing you a lot more in repairs than the few hundred you would save in tax costs.

I'd recommend a Subaru Legacy or Forester estate, supremely reliable, will go just about anywhere with its AWD system and so long as your not driving with your foot to the board, they are actually quite economical for a 2.0 petrol engine. I had a saloon version for 5 years and do similar mileage to you and was averaging 32mpg on short runs and a guaranteed 38-40mpg on longer runs. In that time I spent zero on mechanical repairs. You can pick up an 06 version for well under your budget.

Can you tax as commercial as if you can't you will pay €710 yearly tax and insurance may be higher as it is commercial so its totally different to a private motor policy.

Hyunday are doing well these days so just check it will suit and costs and services done right and get checked over.
