Internet dongle in India?

Heading to India in a few weeks as part of a group.

Is there any prepaid internet dongle I could get that would allow us all to get online? We could just get a prepaid phone and share it out for calling home etc but allowing everybody access to the internet would be more convenient, people can then get onto facebook, whatsapp etc to keep in touch with home.

Get a few local sim cards and split it between a few of you, just turn on your phone as a hotspot.

Get a GEOsim by the telecom operator Reliance and you can tether 3G from your phone. They have the best speeds at the minute, sometimes better than broadband wifi connections.

You could sign up for one at any local shop but you would need to provide some kind of ID - I'm not sure if that's Indian identification or if your passport would work.

Dongles - MTC and Tata are the better ones.

@Otis_taylor2 the Geosim rates appear to be expensive.

@DrPhilG... try Ebay, use it then sell it again when you come back. I believe that you are limited to 5 users tethering on your iphone, not sure if this applies to all phone types.

This needs to be connected to a PC/laptop, I'm assuming the OP is looking for a mobile/tablet fix.

I doubt many people bring a laptop on holidays with them anymore (apart from work).

I got the spelling wrong it's called a Jiosim. This is the one I was talking about https://www.jio.com/en-in/4g-plans. It's a prepaid plan.
