So, I saw this yesterday and its caused quite the fuss across social media. Rightfully so imo

    https://www.her.ie/business/cocoa-browns-marissa-carter-death-beauty-blogging-341059

As someone to was one of the first to blog about CB, and was at most of her earlier events and saw first hand how she appreciated irish bloggers at the beginning it's a bit of a slap in the face.

What do you think? Is it a case of someone forgetting where they came from?

There's a difference in promoting a product that you think is good, and promoting a product even if you think it's not great.

You can no longer tell the difference on social media.

You often cant tell is social media promoting the product or is the product social media.

Because a lot of the vlogging is filler is suggests the latter.

I get that, but there is also a lot of genuine bloggers working their bums off on their blogs. I don't like the way she tars everyone with the same brush.

I'm not agreeing with her, but I honestly can't remember reading any negative reviews in a long time.

A lot of vloggers not just beauty ones have noticed that to get more views they need to be short videos and upload a lot more frequently. YouTube seems to be actively promoting this approach and it encourages click bait filler vloggers. To get sponsors, they aren't going to want negative PR.

I don't know this person you are talking about but as a generalization shes correct in broad terms. YouTube is no longer a fresh faced industry. Its becoming a hard nose money making machine. The vloggers are reflecting this and YouTube is encouraging it.

Personally in the areas I'm interested in (not beauty;) ) it the least popular you tubers that have the most interesting content. Which a few exceptions. I slowly drift away from old favorites as they all inevitably change as they get increasingly commercialized.

I kind of agree with her, when beauty blogging on social media started out it was really authentic, now most of them are sponsored and a nothing more than advertisers. As much as I love watching beauty related channels on youtube I rarely watch reviews or demos anymore by makeup youtubers because I feel like im watching a shopping channel. I know only watch a very small number of beauty channels that I feel maybe I can trust, like Lisa Eldridge, thrift thick, Pixi woo, Tati Westbrook, ill watch some Wayne Goss but only his tips and chat videos because he's sponsored to f**k.
There are some genuine beauty bloggers but you cant deny that a huge amount of them are very dishonest. The only Irish blogger I follow is Melanie Murphy she has good content and she always says when a company has sponsored her.

I follow two three "fashion" blogs - one Norwegian, One Dutch and one American. I check into Lisa Eldridges site occasionally too. Irish blogging is cringeworthy.

I'm a bit puzzled. The Image style awards were on last night and I heard Marissa won the category for best Social Influencer?!
    Seriously? I'm very confused...

Best beauty Influencer! Was voted by the public as far as I know?

I was talking to a skincare specialist recently who knows Marissa Carter and we were talking about the incident. She said that she (the rep, not Marissa) has been approached by bloggers basically asking her to pay them to talk about their products, it's gas, you'd have it in your head that the companies approach the bloggers, not the other way around! She said she's been told by bloggers if you give me €500 I'll talk about your products and promote them!! Now that I certainly wouldn't agree with!! It was probably these type of bloggers Marissa was talking about although it certainly came across that she was slating all of them!

My regular technician in my local nail salon told me the last time I was in they occasionally get bloggers asking for a treatment for free in return for a good write up, she said some of them are absolutely shameless about it. They have a lot of repeat local business and don't need to advertise. Nothing would surprise me about the 'influencers' out there any more.

Does this mean she's the most inauthentic of them all? :pac:

As someone who is a PR manager for a large fashion brand... you have no idea!

Think Marissa had a point to make but expressed it very poorly and wasn't prepared for the backlash.
