Potterton Promax Boiler

I've just moved to a new house with a Potterton Promax boiler. The problem is that it is really noisy and very irritating when trying to sleep. I know I can just turn it off at night however that defeats the purpose as I can't then time the heat to come on. I have an EPH box for the heating controls and thermostats on the wall. My previous boiler only came on when heating controls were on. This one is on permanently.

I'm also find I have to set it to a high temperature, around 50 degrees for the thermostat to function directly. Is this normal?

For a start, the boiler shouldn't be on permenantly. Get an rgi to check it out

Am I right in saying it should only be active when the heating controls are on?

Yes correct. Probably a dodgy motorised valve at fault
