    Hi,

This is probably a silly question but I have this package with Virgin Media but haven't actually availed of the home phone bit.

Is it as easy as purchasing phone (30 from Virgin) and plugging it into the modem and having unlimited local, national and mobile calls?

Can anyone who uses this let me know? I'm nervous to try it as I'm scared I'll get stung bill-wise somewhere along the line.

    Thanks.:)

Yes, although it's a landline connection, it's called 'Mobile World' (it's also called 'Anytime World') and note that 'calls are free to landlines only'. You can call 22 countries and you may get up to 400 mins per month (billing period).

Login to https://www.virginmedia.ie/ and check which package you're on, click the phone package for more details.

You just plug a phone (usually a cordless base unit) into the #1 phone port on the back of the router or horizon box. Any old phone with tone dial will do to check for a dial tone and to make a test call.

Older cordless phones will work but they may not properly display the number or name for incoming calls, my old Eircom cordless couldn't do it so I bought a new Panasonic cordless from Amazon and the caller id for incoming calls works fine now.
