Hey peeps, I've my eye on a 130tdi auto Passat CC here in Aus, they are pretty rare here and even rarer to find a private diesel one for sale.

I'm a vw fanboy and have had a shed load of diesel golfs over the years.
Anyone any opinions on these? It's 3 years old with 70k on the clock so had a cushty life so far.
The box has paddle shift according to the ad, is that the DSG box or just an auto that can be overruled?

    Cheers in advance

My Dad drives a 2.0TDI passat and it is nothing but trouble! I've just about managed to get him to get rid of the thing!

That's a very generalized statement, there were many versions of the Passat over the years fitted with a number of different diesel engines. They are pretty good cars these days while certain versions in the past have been troublesome.

OP, if I was living in Oz and looking at a Passat CC I'd be looking for a smoother v6 petrol version rather than diesel. Is there a reason you are looking at a diesel other than from previous experience? DSG is the automatic version available in the Passat CC which uses a duel clutch system. The paddle shifts on the steering wheel just allow to shift gear up and down in manual mode instead of doing so from the gear shift selector.

Ive had petrol cars here and while the fuel is cheaper my heavy right foot just gets the better of me. I dread to think what sort of fuel consumption you would get out of a v6. I do some decent mileage and prefer the torque and economy of the diesel.

hmm, I deliberately bought a manual when i got my MKV gti as I didn't want the trouble or expenses of a dsg failure. Thats a disappointment. :(

I think the DSG in the diesel VWs is different to the ones in the petrol VWs and more reliable. The DSG boxes need regular servicing though.

I have a 177bhp CC with the DSG, its got 240km and the box was regularly serviced. It has never skipped a beat. Gearbox oil needs to be done every 40K miles according to VW.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I might test drive one at a dealers to give me some idea of the box. I did drive a dsg gti when buying my one and was impressed with the way it changed.

There's a lot of tech in these cars, any elec dramas?

On the European models, the air conditioning compressor can fail on them and it's an expensive replacement. EGR valves can also give trouble on early European models.
