Get a piece of paper, write your name at the top and write the details of the car along with the price on the paper and then sign it in the name of the UK seller and put the date on it. They don't care where it came from, they simply need a receipt.

I was VRTing my wifes car 18 months ago and lost the receipt on the way to the VRT office and the girl gave me a piece of paper and said 'here, write one out'

Weirdly enough I cannot find what is the prison sentence for falsifying such invoice...

Why did they refuse? Normally they just tell you scribble up an invoice yourself. Is it possible that the car had previously been presented for VRT and is now outside the 30 day period to pay it so is liable for VRT penalties also.

If so then this is why I'm very apprehensive about buying any UK registered car from private individual son the likes of donedeal who legally are not supposed to be selling foreign registered cars here.

You are very brave or something else buying a UK car from a private seller. Don't mean to be bad but these people will continue to sell these cars illegally as long we people but them

This works fine if the car came from N.Ireland, but if the OP's car came from across the water he'll need a ferry receipt.

I know i could easily just do one up myself, but should i put down the guys name i bought it from or make up some name and address from the north. Say bought it from a guy up da north this way i shouldnt need a shipping number.

The only time I've ever had to produce a ferry ticket is when I was presenting the vehicle more than 30 days after the sale invoice date and the ferry ticket showed the vehicle crossed from England 7 days after the sale date - therefore not liable for any penalty charge.

Yes put down name of guy you bought off. Have you checked the car hasn't been clocked or cat c or d as that's mostly what's been sold on the sly here.

A bit late for this assuming it was a private seller. Which it very much sounds like...
