    Hi,

can anyone advise why its necessary to supply such information on the statement of means form? I have no objection to the request for the amounts held but what use is this information?

I thought it was more illegal to require the use of BICs now?

    It is.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Illegal or not once you've given the IBAN then the BIC is easily worked out

Yeah, but with a lot of Banks you have to do a lot of searching online to find the BIC, Judy to give it to someone who has a database that can look it up directly from the IBAN.

I questioned it today - I want to understand why this is asked for, how its going to be used and how is this information stored. Again, no issue with the statement of means, have nothing to hide but genuine curiosity- would like to know why this level of detail is required, given its neither for processing debits nor credits on the accounts.

The response I got was that the application wont process without this information...

Sounds like a job for the data protection commissioner.

People can overthink the issues surrounding giving their bank account details.

The worse that will happen is that someone will try to give you money:)

I thought they needed these details in order to pay you your benefits, no?
