R139 and lack of road markings

Was travelling on the R139 yesterday for the first time in a while. Road markings have always been an issue or more so the lack of them. Travelling west bound, the paint has worn away completely on most of the length of the road, thereby making it difficult to tell where the division is between lanes 1 & 2. Up ahead of me, there was car that was straddling both lanes but as there was no road markings, it would seem that the driver was not aware that there are two lanes.

I know this road is on the border between two council administrative areas. Is this the reason why new road markings are not being applied? Is the border literally the centre of the road? Even if this is the case, I'm sure some co-operation wouldn't be too difficult to achieve. There must be some minimum legal standards for road marking on a 4 lane road, especially because there are turning lanes in the centre in a few locations.

I suspect it is not considered to be a 4 lane road by the council(s) involved.

Perhaps it's not but it is a 4 lane road, whether they think so or not. Just because the lane markings have faded to all but nothing does not mean one can say it has greater or fewer lanes. Long time users of the road know that the ex bus lanes were made open to all users many years ago and at that point, it became 2 lanes in each direction with turning lanes in the central median area in several location. I do admit that when it first opened, it was 1 lane in each direction with hard shoulders but that was when the road was first opened.

If the council(s) wish to revert to 1 lane each way, they still need to get their fingers out of their arses and put down some road markings on what is an extremely busy R (ex-N) road, especially during rush hours. Due to the massive increases in population in this part of Dublin, re-instating the road back to 2 lanes in each direction would be a crazy decision to make. It's full beyond capacity in either direction during many rush hours, with 2 lanes in use each way

Put reports into FixMyStreet or FixYourStreet. The CCs have committed to handling them promptly and often actually do.

Yes, says so in post 3. If you don't know what or where the R-139 is then you don't need to worry about it because if you use it you know about it and it's issues.

No need for the Dublin chip on shoulder.

    Message to Fixmystreet:

On the entire length of the R139, most of the road markings have worn away, to nothing in many areas. Quite often, vehicles straddle both lane 1 (the ex-bus lane but now just the left lane) and lane 2 because they are unaware that there are 2 lanes. This is just 1 issue. The general lack of road markings is a disgrace, a serious source of danger and must be illegal. I would also complain about the out of date "BUS LANE" road markings however the heavy traffic on this road has worn away those markings so that's one job done by Joe Public. This is now an extremely busy R-Road and should not be allowed to fall into this horrific state, considering how important this road is. Can this issue be sorted?

I think situation with this R139 getting a bit scandalous.

For more than a year there are no any actions on roadmarkings here. Some drivers thinks that bus lane still in use, so driving in the middle of the road, other ones, overtaking them on former bus lane. Total chaos. People are driving as they want here.
During off peak times 90% overspeeding here, with official speed limit 60km/h, most driving at least 80-90km/h, tailgating other slowgoers.
Never seen any garda presence here.
Another thing - litter and rubbish everywhere, especially beside halting site.

Seems that Dublin City council dont give a damn about this part of the city.

As someone who lived there for a lot of years and used that road a lot, I can assure you that you're dead right.

You have Darndale, Priorswood and Coolock covered by that area.. not exactly high-priority for the council or politicians :(

Road markings were redone in the past few weeks. Bus lane markings fully removed and standard two lanes now with 60kph painted in each lane.

The one bit that wasn't done was the faded lines coming off the roundabout heading eastbound.
