Not sure if it's ok to post this. My parents Black Q5 2 liter diesel was stolen last night/this morning. Would be very greatfull if posters in Limerick could keep an eye out. Guards have been out first thing and indicated it's becoming a bit of an issue.

It was stolen from the Casteltroy area of Limerick. Reg 151-L-2819. It had a ton of extras so will be hard to replace. Visually it had metallic black paint (that kinda sparkled) and a panoramic sun roof. There's also a dog guard in the boot. If I can get any more info I'll post it.

Thankfully they just took the car so no one was hurt other than the shock of taking the dog for an early walk and realizing there's a big empty space in the driveway.

    This sh!t really annoys me!

You have my sympathy KNS, it's a terrible feeling seeing that big empty space. I guess they managed to get hold of the keys somehow?

Not 100% sure of the ins and outs of how they actually got it started. Just glad no one was hurt/assaulted which was my first thought.

It just really p!sses my off that you work hard (your whole life in my folks case) and these scumbags see something and just take it.

If you've a picture with the license plate that tends to jog in peoples memories, OP.

My sympathies to your folks OP

Sorry to hear this, OP. Just last week heard a neighbour had their A6 stolen from the driveway, after house was burglarised and keys stolen.
One question: are you not supposed to get it back from insurance?

Thanks for all the replies. A story with a happy ending for a change. Car was found undamaged (according to guards) just the smell of cigarettes! Three have been arrested. Apparently another Audi was stolen close by.

Delighted to hear ye got car back. Out of interest did they rob the key to get the car?

It's appears a combination of jet lag/tiredness/old age meant a spare set of keys were left in the car which may have even been open. Literally a sitting duck. They were just back from holidays.

They're getting it back today so straight to Audi to get everything recoded. Can't praise the guards enough considering the flack they've been getting lately.

It was spotted parked up where it stuck out like a sore thumb which drew the guards attention. So we got a bit lucky from that point of view.

Lucky yis got it back as it would hardly have been covered by insurance if the keys were left in it??

Sorry to hear OP, but I am glad it was found. Fair lay to Garda.

I only had car broke in to few weeks ago and got all sorted, but for weeks it was really hard to drive it as you knew some scumbags were in it and violated it.

Unfortunately these scum will probably be on the street after a few hours and told not to do it again. Even with their 300 other convictions it will probably be put down to their disadvantaged upbringing, etc. Most be frustrating for the Gardai catching these wasters only for the judicial system to spit them back out on the street.

    .

I wouldn't be immune to leaving my car open on occasion by accident- probably the only reason i wouldn't leave the keys in the car is because my house keys are on the same ring.

Your experience has opened my eyes to the fact that not only are there organised gangs breaking in to steal keys, we can't discount the simple opportunists going from car to car and checking if there's easy access.

Glad you got it returned and in one piece.

They collected the car this afternoon. The contents were all gone along with a few scuffs on the interior. She's in the Audi garage atm. Getting recoded, new spare key ordered and will need a new lock fitted once in stock as they would be able to open the car but not start it if the key they took is floating around. It'll be blocked in the driveway until the new lock is fitted along with a good clean.

There were 2 other recovered Q5's parked beside it. Must be a popular choice among the scummers! The guy at the impound reckons they opened the car via a laptop if it wasn't locked and the key in the car was a bonus.

what do mean by the key in the car, surely there was no car key in the car? how easy do you need to make it?

Ah, so it looks like it was a bit more organised than just some opportunists. I wonder do the car companies have a software fix for these coding machines to encrypt the car key codes used and prevent this from happening- it's obviously an issue now from this and other reports i've seen recently.

They made it very easy for the thieves unfortunately. A spare key to the car was left in the car attached to another set of keys. This was a stupid mistake.

The only bit we're not 100% sure about is how they opened the car. Either it was left open by mistake or the had some way of opening the car without damaging it.

Is there keyless entry on it? Is it possible that the car cannot be locked with a key inside?

That popped into my head alright but not sure if it has keyless entry. I don't think it has.

That's the way my 508 is with keyless, impossible to lock with another key inside. A pain in the arse as my wife insists on bringing the spare on long journeys, then forgets to take it out when stopping

Research "RFID signal blocking bag", it'll make the wife's key invisible

RFID blocking handbags. Now there's a business idea :D

RFID blocking masonry always works best, leave the spare key safe at home.

Isn't it a positive thing that car refuses to be locked with key inside ?

In my IS250, touching door handle was unlocking the car if key is in vicinity so easier to think you locked it if car doesn't refuse to be locked at the beginning.
