Can I apply for 4th Learner Permit having not done a test?

Just wondering, my 3rd learner permit is due to expire next month. I had gotten two provisional licenses before this without having learned how to drive, and then last year decided to get a permit but due to health reasons I haven't been able to take any lessons.

When I applied last year I had to book a test but I increased my period of unavailability to this summer. Could I contact RSA and get a new letter stating my test is forthcoming and use this? Or will I have to sit the test?

If you provide evidence of a forthcoming test appointment - an acknowledgment of application is sufficient - you will be issued with a one-year learner permit. No need to actually do the test, but this technique is expensive.

Your test booking is still valid even though it's status is 'medical hold' - you can use it to renew this permit in the same way you used it the last time and you'll get another 1 year permit. Ideally, bring something like a confirmation letter or printed confirmation email to the NDLS even if it's just the original acknowledgement showing your booking number and test category for 'B'.
