If I have 50mg.dm^-3 (yes that is to the negative3)
do I have 50mg per mL???

ive never seen dm to the negative power before so my assumption is its 1000ml to the negative 3 so 1ml?

Thanks in advance for any help

    How I would do it:

    1 cubic decimetre (dm^3) = 1 litre.

50 mg dm^(-3) = 50 mg per dm^3 (that is the meaning of the negative power).

Therefore you have 50mg per L.

    In terms of mL:

1000 mililitres in a litre therefore you have 50/1000 = 0.05 mg per mL.
