Hi all I am inquiring about this car with an intention to buy one, has anyone had a bad experience with it? And if so what are the major issues on it?
From 1-10 how would you rate the car?

    Its a 2009 automatic 2.2 diesel engine. D-cat they called it. .

    Please advise
    Regards

The engine hasn't a great reputation for reliability in other models. It's rare enough to get an Avensis in 2.2.
Tax is €570, but you only get 150bhp.
Gearbox is supposed to be grand but not that pleasant in comparison to rivals

cheers Colm, I have sported one already but not bought it yet, is there any main issues on the engine?
    What would be it's rivals?
    Thanks a mill.

Avensis rivals would be Passat, Mondeo, Insignia, Hyundai I40, Kia Optima, Honda Accord, Audi A4, Citroen C5, Peugeot 407/508

The engine in other applications could give head gasket problems, EGR valves, injectors, carbon build up.

The 135bhp versions fitted to some other models don't seem to throw up as many issues ,but I honestly don't know how the 150 compares.

Did you think about petrol ones?
1.8 manual provides pretty much the same performance as 2.2 d-cat automatic and is cheaper to tax.
    Fuel consumption also very similar.

1.8 automatic would be bit slower, and tiny bit less fuel efficient, and be in the same tax bracket as 2.2 d-cat, but would be way cheaper to maintain in long run.

The best automatic Toyota is the Prius. A bit smaller than the Avensis though, more Corolla sized.
