Anyone here in one? What are the pros and cons as some people say they are a great job and others don't like them. How do they work? How do ya join them or find out about them?

Iirc, stanflt is in one and finds it good.

I'd be in something a bit like one, pay a fee every year to join Buyrite which is a sister company of Magenta Direct.

I find it good, can recover the membership fees on vaccines mostly and get a good bit of fencing stuff and general hardware delivered to my door the following day by courier. Stuff is way cheaper than I can get around here so it does add up.

Around me there's three or four. you need to be in a good one where every man obeys and is on time with payments. There's a fair saving on meal and fertilizer with the local ones, but i wouldn't be running the numbers to justify being in one.

How much does it cost to join

I am in a small group. The only cost is 5/10 euro to cover the costs of the secretary. Small is fine as we all know each other and no time wasters/non payers in it.

In a large group here. €1000 deposit refundable if you decide to leave but not if you leave debts:D. €400 a year to cover admin. You need to commit to it to recoup your investment and to increase the purchasing power of group. One benefit is you won't have salesmen calling once they know your in a group.

I'm going to push you a little and ask re average prices from your group.

To get the ball rolling, I'm happy to share my own information so here is what I paid for fert this year:

    10.10.20: 390e
    18.6.12: 350e
    24.2.5.10 360e
    Urea: 350e

During the winter, I paid 310e ton for bull power nuts.

Would you have like for like prices within your group for the above?

i don't think any of those figures are very competitive, i'm not in any group and was able to achieve those prices and even slightly better.

First rule of purchasing club.... You can't talk about purchasing club, its actually in the signed contract! But look you can win and lose on fertilizer as it is such a fluctuating market. We lost last year but are up this year. Fuel prices are excellent, no individual would come near getting the price we are getting. Also we get discounts on hardware, tyre companies etc. Feed is with one company but you are not tied into taking it from that company. Same with milk replacer etc. For example they had a lower spec replacer than I required so I went elsewhere, but I got a better deal from that salesperson as he knew I had option of going with group powder and he had lost a good few customers from the group already.

Not in a group either. These prices are from local co op and I was asking the guys/girls in the PG to compare their prices to mine.

    Not in group here
    350 urea
    250 can
    Today delivery Friday
Sorta stay loyal to 2 meal Co as Im of opinion better ingredients make better feed
Can't see why I'm not getting best price as paying customer taking drop off 52 weeks on day that suits hauliers

Meal rep claims they no longer compete for groups because too few have all good payers.

Only groups they want are the ones that have a designated person to collect money and lodge to bank on certain date

No one in any Half decent group is going to throw out prices of stuff here. My experience from some groups etc is positive provided everyone in it plays ball as there is serious deals to be gotten on meal ,fertiliser ,vetinary ,farm supplies and even on things like mart fees ,banking etc

As I previously said and I wasn't joking, it's actually a clause in a contract that you sign on entering group not to discuss the details of prices etc. I suppose if I start blowing to everyone the great deal we might be getting off this or that supplier, then long term customers of that supplier will be going back looking for a better deal, saying if you gave it to them you can give it to me.

Totally right. Can't and should not give prices. Proof in the pudding is not many people have left ours. Best part is the reduction in sales people coming to yard. With some prices people outside group can match them. But very rare (maybe never) do we get worse price unless it was due to timing.

You will most likely have to get a member to nominate you.
