Fuse tap on MK1 Focus

    Hi,

I have a 2003 MK1.5 Ford Focus and I want to have switched ignition power to charge my phone only when the ignition is on. I have a fuse tap and fuse that I bought from eBay.

I was reading up on it and I'm planning on tapping in on the rear window wiper power. Does anyone with a Mk1 Focus know which way I would insert the fuse tap? I have no multimeter so I cannot test it.

    Thanks!

Is the cigarette lighter permanently on on them or something?

Yeah I have two cigarette lighters but both stay on

It'd be much easier to just remove the charger from the cigarette lighter socket when appropriate surely?

I would, but I'm worried that I'll leave it plugged in and have then have a dead battery

If you leave a USB charger plugged in overnight with nothing connected, I can't imagine the load (easily <1W) would be enough to discharge the battery.

The original fuse slots into the socket nearest the blades. The new fuse foes into the top socket.

    Totally agree.
If that was to happen i wold be looking at getting a new battery.
In my old car i had an upgraded sound system. 600w and 1000w amps in the boot. Regularily i would be working beside the car and have the sound system turned on , booming away.
Anything up to 4 hours and the car would start no bother. over 4 hours and it wouldnt .jusy a comparison for above
