Clean Lichen off sandstone

I have what I think is lichen on sandstone around the house.
    Sills and quoins are affected.

I was hoping to clean these back to their former glory without damagaing them. There's a few places where the lichen has not really affected the stone and it looks great.

I'm no expert but I *think* the stone is sandstone. It's seems very easily damaged so powerhose or anything abrasive is a no-no.

The plan (once the weather settles!) is to clean and then seal them up with say Thompson's Water Seal or similar.

A couple of pics attacted, any advice appreciated.

A lot of unnecessary work in my opinion, that will need to be redone.
Anything other than light sandblasting will leave a stain which will look woeful

This is how it's supposed to weather.

Power washer doing the job. They look brandnew.
Treating with Thompson's water seal afterwards.
