    Hi all,

Upgrading my 10 year old Panasonic Plasma and have decided on a 4K LG

Down to 2 models ... last years and this years.

    older model

    Newer model ...
    £100 more

    Also still undecided on 49 v 55inch
The old plasma is a 42 - but dimensions of 55 are not a whole lot bigger than old plasma (because of the bezel)

OLED look fantastic I must say but guessing it will a year or before they drop below the 1k mark

    Anyhow ... advice appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Keith.

My biggest gripe with the LG tv's is the built in OS. I find it sluggish and since the tv's do so much these days I feel that it should play a big part of any purchase.

I recommend Android TV, I have a Sony 4k with this software and its brilliant, snappy and I don't require a separate box /media player for streaming, kodi etc.

    Ok interesting point ....

I am an IOS user ... but also a Kodi user! (Have a Pi)
And for sure .... the TVs OS will become as important a factor as the hardware.
LG are sticking with WebOS .... Sony have backed Android TV.

Is Android TV mature enough yet? Are there issues with RTE Player for example?

I'll put it to you this way, I was using a shield tv but since I got the sony I have moved it to another room. If I want to stream full 4k files I bring it back in but thats few and far between. Havent tried rte player as they have the backup on the skybox now

So you can side load kodi on to the Sony Android OS? I'm also in the market for a new TV. Considering this one

No need to sideload it is available to install from the official play store.

OP here .... went for a Sony Bravia in the end.
The Sony runs android tv ... that was one of the factors that's swung me towards the Sony

Kodi installed through the App Store and runs flawlessly

I ended up ordering an OLED55E6V. I went to Currys and couldn't get over the picture quality of the OLED. Blacks and contrast more in keeping with the plasma I've had up til now. I considered the Kodi issue but I can keep on using the Fire TV.
