i know everyone has there own opinion. Should i wait a while?

Was out today myself and you should see some of my ground. Only thing stopping you from spreading should be if your ground is waterlogged.

After St. Patricks Day the calendar is in your favour. Temp are rising and daylight hours increasing. Grass needs the little push after the winter.

80units of N on old pasture. You want p and k also. I think 120 units of K is recommended. But are there many drystock lads throwing on this?

How about 2 bags 18-6-12 and abag of urea /acre. Have you slurry?

Glas lipp is 1/2 bag 18-6-12 and 1/2 bag of urea.
Silage ground I've done 2500gls to the acre and 4 bags of 18-6-12 and 1/2 bag of urea acre.
All other grazing ground will get a dressing of slurry in autumn 10-10-20 for now

For GLAS, its "Maximum chemical nitrogen usage is 40 kg N per ha per annum"

    Note the per Hectare...

40kg N per Ha, is about 16kg N per acre.

    Urea is 46% N, so 23kg N, so 1/2 bag = ~11kg N
    18-6-12 is 9kg N, so 1/2 bag = ~5kg

So (by my sums) I said is spot on...

(My sums could be wrong though) :)

Does 1 bag of urea not contain 46 units of N? Half a bag of urea gives you 23 units N. Likewise with 18 6 12,a bag of it gives you 18 unit of N, half a bag 9 units.

I think he meant kgs instead of units.

    A bag of urea is 50kg total @46% N gives 23kg N, so half a bag is 11.5kg N.
    A bag of 18-6-12 is 50kg total @18% N gives 9kg N, so half a bag is 4.5kg N.

You are right, I said units, when I should have said kg (as Injury prone just said)
    Examples

    1 bag of 27.5% N = 27.5 units N = 13.7 kg. N.

    1 bag of 18-6-12 = 18.0 inits N = 9.0 kg. N = 6.0 units P = 3.0 kg. P. = 12.0 units K = 6.0 kg. K.

It can be confusing, I usually have to write it all down when doing them calculations. I just discovered kg/ha divided by 1.25 gives you units/ac.

So if I'm spreading only 18.6.12 on LIPP or THM in Glas how many bags per acre can I spread to keep in line with terms and conditions ?

    32units an acre.

1 and three quarters (1.75 bags) is dead on the money.

    No, that's for grazing.

Spread this year early February about 18 units of acre. Really bought grass on. Started spreading again 10 days ago about 30 units/HA. Used urea mostly except used 18-6-12 on about 8 acres away from farm. Giving silage ground that got slurry in February 100 units of N 120kgs of urea/acre and ground that is to get slurry this week got 70-80 units of N. Silage ground was grazed first and is being closed now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,173 ✭✭✭✭Muckit

    46units in a bag urea. 2 bags = 92.
